We have made an effort to take advantage of some of the events that our very kid-friendly town has to offer. This past month they featured the multicultural festival, which was fun, but the kids were only interested in getting a balloon! If anyone can explain to me why balloons are so fun for kids I would love to know.
Following the festival we made our first visit to the Chandler Library. Can you believe we have lived here 6 years and we hadn't visited our library? Well, it is not shocking but Alex loved the library. She now is the owner of her very own library card and has checked out multiple books. We have been limiting her to three books per visit, so you can only guess how many times we read those same three books each day...
Bronson and his wife Fawn and their baby Jameson came out for a visit and it was great to see them. Alex and Rory had a little trouble sharing Gigi, Baba and Smitty but they where excited to meet another cousin and aunt and uncle anyway! We had a great time and are very happy to have finally met little Jamie! Unfortantely my camera battery was dead (and the charge was lost) during most of their visit so I have very few pictures to share.
Pat had to travel for work this month and had the pleasure of visiting Detroit. At some point while he was gone I must have told Alex that he was in Michigan working. When we picked him up from the airport Alex asked him "Daddy, did you have fun at Klinger Lake?". Poor kid spent the week thinking her daddy was at the lake having fun without her!
Over the last few months Rory has increased her vocabulary consideraly. She now has a word for just about every object we encounter in daily life. She is also combining 2-3 words. Her favorite is to tell us what someone belongs to. "Mommy's shoe", "Daddy's drink". It is pretty cute!
For Rory's playgroup we visit a local produce farm in Chandler, which was great fun. We had an opportunity to learn a ton about Chandler history by a fourth generation Chandler resident as well as learn a little about vegetable farming. The kids loved sampling the veggies right out of the dirt! I am trying to come up with a way to start growing a couple of my own little veggies. The farmer gave us some great tips, so I will let you know how successful I am. I think next weekend Alex and I will start this little project. Wish us luck!
So on to the medical part - don't worry we are all fine! As many of you know Rory has been visiting the GI doctor and they are concerned about her size, or should I say lack of size. In January she fell to the negative 3rd percentile so they started her on some medication to increase her appetite and hopefully in turn cause her to gain weight. The medicine made her very moody and caused her to trip and fall. The doctor cut her dose in half, which helped with the mood swings, but she continued to fall. We made another visit to the doctor and learned that Rory had gained a pound in just 3 weeks so they are allowing her to take a week off the medicine. So far the doctors haven't found any medical reason for her small size. I, on the other hand. think I have a perfectly good explanation of her size - her Great Grandmas and Aunt Paula. I think it is just in the genes!
Alex and Rory have both had very bad colds and upon doctor's visits for each of them, we have learned they both had double ear infections and Alex had some wheezing in her chest. Alex was prescribed at home breathing treatments which was essentially a machine that turns her medicine into a vapor so that it can be absorbed more easily into her lungs. Today her coughing has mostly stopped, so we will thankfully also stop the treatment.
Josie, our 11 year-old black lab, was diagnosed with a perianal tumor. The only definitive way to determine if is benign or malignant is to have it removed. Given her age, we have elected to not have surgery and hope that it is benign. So far she seems perfectly fine and there has been no change in the tumor.
Love, Caycee, Pat, Alex and Rory
