Earth Day

Every week as I finish my blog posting I think to myself what in the world will I write about next week? It amazes me that as each new week (or two) passes I have yet another topic to share with you all.

As Alex has been getting older and starting to understand more concepts we have been trying to teach her about conserving our resources, such as electricity and paper. We remind her to turn off lights and to not turn them on when we don't need them and we try to color on both sides of our paper so we don't waste too much. In keeping with the theme I decided this year we would talk about Earth Day and do a special project to celebrate. I bought some little tiny pots with seeds and soil for Alex to plant. She loved the project and we have enjoyed watching our plants start to grow. At the completion of our little project Alex asked me where the cake was. I couldn't understand what she meant which lead to her tears. She finally explained that Earth Day needed a birthday day cake, so off to the store we went to buy a cake mix to make a birthday cake for Earth Day. :) I guess my explanation of what the Earth is wasn't very good.

Rory also enjoyed the cupcakes. Big sister Alex loves to share sweet food with Rory. It is pretty funny, everytime Alex really enjoys eating something she wants to share a bite with Rory. If I could only get her want to share her toys....

We finally made it to Baba and Gigi's house for a visit this week also. Rory was so excited to play the piano! And can she ever bang on the keys. Impressive that such a little kid can make so much noise.

Alex fell right back into the place naming the different plants out the window and looking for animals.

This week little Rory finally started to say Mama. Up until now it has all been about Dada. :)

Final Soccer and Trike-a-thon

Hello all,
Last weekend Alex had her final soccer practice. Alex had so much fun and it was great to have a nice family activity for Saturday mornings. We are sad to see it end. At the conclusion of the practice all of the kids received a medal. Here is a little video clip of Alex receiving hers, as well as a couple cute pictures.

The girls and I had a little picnic in the park on Friday which was tons of fun. I think I am the only one who ate my lunch though! Alex was busy running and playing and Rory was just trying to keep up. As many of you know Alex was scheduled to participate in a Trike-a-thon on Friday afternoon but she slept through it. She had a rock star nap lasting over 3 hours!

Today we ventured out for breakfast and then let the girls play at the mall playground. We had the place to our self which the girls thought was great!

After breakfast Alex and Daddy took a huge bike ride and had ice cream together. Then they came back and picked Mommy and Rory and we all went for a bike ride. Yes, mom rode a bike. We road to the Chandler airpark and watched the planes take off. What a great time! Sorry no pictures!

Side notes of the week:

Rory has learned to climb the stairs. She is amazingly fast and determined to get to the top. Everytime I turn my head she goes straight there. She actually threw a tantrum when I blocked her from the stairs.

Just another week

I am amazed that another week has gone by so fast. Our weather has remained just about perfect and the girls have continued to enjoy playing outside. Alex played soccer again this past weekend and had a great time. She loved keeping the ball away from Daddy. But then what doesn't she like to do with Daddy? Little Rory has also become quite a Daddy's girl and yells and crawls to him as soon as he walks in the door at night. It is pretty funny to watch.
Rory has mastered the art of pulling herself up on things and sometime pulling those things back down on herself. Today I caught her pulling herself up on a coffee table and then actually let go of it to get a toy. She remained on her feet for a few seconds before landing on her bottom. I have a feeling she will be up and walking before we know it. I have to admit though, I would much rather have her walking than crawling. With 3 dogs in the house I find it a little gross to have her crawling on the floor.

Alex started a toddler tumbling class on Monday. She loved every part of it except for the tumbling. Funny. She is really good on the balance beam and the trampolines and loves running the little obstacle course that the teacher set up but when it came to somersaults she refused.

Alex has also come up with a few funny comments this week. Yesterday at the park she kept taking the sand from the sandbox and putting it on the sidewalk, which resulted in us having to leave the park. Today when we got back to the park she looked at the sand on the sidewalk and said "What the heck is this doing here?".
Later in the day she was wearing a new pair of flip flops (thanks Gigi and Baba!) and I said to Alex "I love the little fish on your flip flops." She replied "Actually Mom they are not fish they are birds." You will just have to imagine her tone of voice and attitude when she was correcting me. This past weekend she came up to Rory and said "Oh Rory I love your dress. What pretty flowers it has!". Oh the things a two year old can come up with!

Spring Break Part II

Pat's Mom came for a visit this past weekend and helped us make a great end to our spring time fun. The girls had so much fun playing with Grandma and poor Alex didn't realize that when Grandma got out of the car at the airport that she was actually leaving. All day today she has been asking me "Where are the Grandmas". Must be difficult saying goodbye to so many people in such a short time.

Prior to Betti's arrival on Friday Alex had a playdate with her little friend Ian. They had a great time...that is when they could find a way to share the toys :).

When Grandma got here Alex was so excited to show her all of her toys and talk Grandma's ear off. Alex had her second soccer practice on Saturday, which she was very excited about until it was actually time to play. She wanted nothing to do with it once we got there. Then about 10 minutes before the class was ending she really got into the game. She was very disappointed when class ended.
On Sunday we made our first visit to The World Wildlife Zoo, which was great fun. We saw many animals we had never seen before. Rory was so excited by all of the animals she could hardly figure out where to look. She just loved it. Both girls had a great time riding the skyway and the train and Alex loved watching the Rhino getting brushed. Alex was also very happily surprised by a Macaw that said "Hi" to her as she passed it. Mom loved the baby tigers - oh so cute!

Other important news....

Rory started crawling a little over a week ago. She can really get around now! Alex isn't sure that she likes her sisters new mobility! Rory also had her first taste of icecream this past weekend, thanks to her big sister. Yes, she loved it!
